Popular dialogue often seems to suggest that mainstream religion and more spirit or earth-based practices have little in common. The phrase “spiritual but not religious” comes to mind. But in a poetic retranslation of some the original Aramaic text of Jesus’ words, Neil Douglas-Klotz indicates that the two are much more closely linked and that more modern or imperialized expressions of this religion have lost their roots. This setting of the retranslated Lord’s Prayer portrays awe, grandeur, and gratitude at the power of the divine.
